🤖 The first (and only) Australian cutting service your AI agent can order from
If you use Claude Code, Codex or another coding agent, you can now point it at KERF. It uploads your file, reads back the measured geometry and any warnings, builds the quote, reads the price and hands you the checkout link. You pay. That last part is deliberate, and it is the whole design.
As far as we can find, no other cutting service in Australia offers this, and we looked hard: every instant-quote shop we checked runs a hosted quoting page, and none publishes an API, let alone an MCP server. We keep a dated record of that check and re-run it. If you know of one, tell us and we will change the headline.
What it is
Two things, one behind the other. A small JSON API at kerf.au/v1, and an MCP server at kerf.au/mcp that presents the same functions as tools an agent can call: find materials, upload a file, create and update a quote, get the price, raise the checkout, check an order. MCP is the open standard coding agents use to talk to outside services, so nothing needs installing on our side or yours beyond one connect command.
How to use it
- Connect your agent. Give it the address
https://kerf.au/mcp: in Claude or ChatGPT as a custom connector, in Claude Code with one add command and/mcp, in Codex with an add and a login. It sends you to kerf.au to sign in with your email and approve; nothing to copy. Everything the agent then makes appears in your own quotes and orders. Or install the plugin, which brings the connection and our skill together:npx plugins add kerf-au/kerf-plugin. A key exists too, for scripts and agents on a machine with no browser; your account card issues one. - Ask. "Price these three DXFs in 3 mm aluminium, ten of each, and give me the checkout link." The agent checks the material and thickness against what we stock, uploads the files to a signed URL so the bytes never pass through the conversation, creates the quote and reports the unit prices, the total and the link.
- Pay. You open the link, choose delivery and pay. Parts are cut within 9 business days of payment and shipped Australia-wide. The agent can follow the order afterwards.
The rules the agent follows
They are written into the server's instructions and every tool description, so every client gets the same behaviour. The agent never pays and never claims an order was placed until it is. It never states a price it did not get from a quote; prices are in Australian dollars including GST, with delivery added at checkout, and they are the same prices the quote workspace shows. If you ask for a thickness we do not stock, it gets the stocked list back and asks you rather than substituting. If a file cannot be cut as drawn, it tells you why in the same words our workspace uses, and stops.
Not a developer? Connect Claude or ChatGPT
You do not need a key or a terminal. In Claude or ChatGPT, add https://kerf.au/mcp as a custom connector; you will be sent to kerf.au to sign in with your email and approve it, and that is it. The connection shows in your account, where one click disconnects it.
What it cannot do
The agent can only do what a person can do here: flat parts, our stocked metals and thicknesses, files up to 25 MB. Anything else is still an email to hello@kerf.au.
Why we built it
Because the people who make things are starting to work this way, and a service that an agent can only link to loses to one it can act on. Also because the same surface serves a script that re-quotes a parts list every Monday, or a partner site that shows our prices on its own pages. The developers guide has the details, the tool list and the connect commands, and the skill and connection are public at github.com/kerf-au/kerf-plugin, so you can read exactly what the agent is told.
Try it with a file you already have
Create a key, connect your agent, and ask it for a price. Or skip the agent and upload here.
